Soil bacteria battle for dominance, impacting plant health and growth.
Fluorescent pseudomonads and soil actinomycetes don't get along well in the soil. A study looked at how 23 strains of actinomycetes and 7 strains of pseudomonads interacted on different types of soil. The pseudomonads were more likely to inhibit the actinomycetes than the other way around. Both types of bacteria could be antagonistic or not towards a harmful fungus called Fusarium oxysporum. Some types of soil were better for pseudomonads to fight, while others were better for actinomycetes. In most cases, these two types of bacteria didn't fight each other in the same conditions.
