New method reveals hidden sediment transport paths in coastal environments!
Grain-size trend analysis was used to study sediment transport paths in macrotidal shoreface environments. The study compared the results with near-bed current measurements in the southern North Sea and Dover Strait. The analysis showed that the method can determine the mean transport direction of the last sediment transport event in small areas. It is most effective when samples are collected during a distinct half tide-cycle. The study suggests that this method can be useful for understanding sediment transport patterns in areas with well-defined tidal currents.
