Biofuel mandates set to transform global agriculture and energy sectors
The study looked at how different rules for managing biofuel mandates affect biofuel production and prices in the USA, European Union, and Brazil. By using a model to simulate different scenarios, the researchers found that current mandates have a big impact on biofuel crops. They predict that global biofuel production will increase by 54% by 2020, with EU ethanol and biodiesel production expected to grow significantly. The study also found that when feedstock yields rise and prices fall, there is a higher demand for biofuels compared to fossil fuels.
