Knowing and Caring: How Awareness of Pollution Drives Watershed Preservation
The study looked at how people's awareness and perception of pollution in their local watershed affects their willingness to protect it. They found that residents who knew about their watershed and believed it was polluted were more likely to want to preserve it. This was true for both urban watersheds studied, but especially so for the more polluted one. In simpler terms, knowing about pollution in your local rivers and streams makes you more likely to want to clean them up and protect them.
