The researchers studied how extracting hemicelluloses from Eucalyptus grandis wood chips using NaOH affects the quality of kraft pulp. They found that using low-cooking, active alkali charge, and less cooking time resulted in better xylan extraction and improved pulp quality. This process slightly enhanced pulp viscosity, breaking strength, and paper tensile index.
