New research reveals how light affects plant growth and flowering!
Phytochrome in Pharbitis nil plants changes when exposed to different types of light. In the dark, a form of phytochrome called Pfr changes to Pr. After being in white light, the amount of phytochrome drops to a low level. When de-etiolated plants are exposed to far-red light, Pr is made slowly. This process affects how the plant controls flowering.
