Unlocking the potential of soil surveys for smarter land evaluation.
This paper discusses how soil surveys can provide important information for evaluating land. It explains what soil surveys and land evaluation are, and how they are connected. The paper focuses on how soil classification helps in summarizing soil information for land evaluation. It also shows how soil parameters can be used to assess land characteristics and qualities. An example of land evaluation for irrigated rice in West-Africa is provided, using the Fertility Capability Classification system to link soil and land information.
