Corruption in Latin American countries reduces people's trust in the government and the political system. This study used data from over 9,000 people in four countries to show that experiencing corruption makes citizens less likely to believe in the legitimacy of their government. This means that corruption has negative effects on how people view their political system and on how much they trust each other.
