New models predict tree characteristics for more accurate forest inventories.
The goal of the study was to create models to predict the size and biomass of individual black pine trees in Croatian forests using remote sensing technology. The researchers used data on tree characteristics and terrain to develop models for tree diameter, volume, and biomass. They found that the best models included both crown diameter and tree height as variables, with high accuracy in predicting tree size and biomass. These models can be used with aerial images or laser scanning data to estimate the size and biomass of black pine trees in Sub-Mediterranean forests.
