Swine wastewater boosts earthworm reproduction, but at what cost?
The researchers tested how swine wastewater affects earthworms. They used a lab experiment with adult earthworms in artificial soil for 14 days. They found that lower concentrations of swine wastewater increased the number of cocoons produced by earthworms. Higher concentrations decreased the number of cocoons but increased earthworm biomass. Overall, the earthworms did not show significant changes in behavior or appearance after exposure to swine wastewater.
