Seminatural Wetlands Outperform Traditional Wastewater Plants in Cost-Effectiveness Analysis
A study compared the cost-effectiveness of natural wetlands and traditional wastewater treatment plants. Both systems were equally effective in treating wastewater. The analysis showed that natural wetlands can be 2.1 to 8 times cheaper to operate than traditional plants, mainly due to lower maintenance costs. The study did not consider other benefits of wetlands besides wastewater treatment.
