New measure to identify chaos in systems could revolutionize predictive modeling.
A new way to measure chaotic behavior has been introduced in this work. It's called the asymptotic distance between trajectories, which can help understand chaos when other methods are difficult. The researchers found that this measure can be used alongside Lyapunov exponents or as an alternative when those are hard to calculate. They also discovered some relationships between the leading Lyapunov exponent and the values of this new measure for different types of systems. The study included simulations of Chua's circuit under various conditions to support their findings.
