Coastal fishing communities in Bangladesh face dire climate threats, livelihoods at risk
The study looked at how fisher communities in coastal Bangladesh are affected by climate change impacts. It found that floods and cyclones, reliance on small-scale fishing, and limited resources make livelihoods vulnerable. By examining exposure, sensitivity, and adaptability, the researchers showed that different communities and households have varying levels of vulnerability. Even in equally exposed areas, households with higher sensitivity and fewer resources are more vulnerable. Overall, reducing vulnerability requires a mix of strategies to improve economic, natural, and social support systems in these fishing communities.
