New Equation Accurately Predicts Leaf Senescence in Crop Growth Models
Scientists have developed a new equation to predict leaf senescence in crops more accurately. By focusing on nitrogen levels in leaves, they created a method that links leaf nitrogen content with photosynthesis to estimate leaf area senesced during crop growth. This approach eliminates the need for empirical turnover coefficients and reduces sensitivity to specific leaf area, making it applicable to various plant types. The method was successfully tested on rice and barley crops in field experiments.
