Recognizing faces quickly and accurately is crucial for humans in social interactions. Two experiments with over 150 participants each identified and confirmed three key abilities in face cognition: perceiving faces, remembering faces, and the speed of processing faces. These abilities are different from general memory, mental speed, and cognitive ability. The study shows that face perception and face memory are distinct, and it's important to consider both speed and accuracy in face cognition. This research suggests that our ability to process faces reflects elements of social intelligence.
