A new method called extended Kalman filter was used to figure out how many cars are traveling between different points on a freeway and how long it takes them to get there. This method can adjust to changing traffic conditions and give accurate estimates. The results showed that this method can help make traffic control plans to improve how traffic flows on freeways.
