Beauty in Average: Why Prototypes Are Instantly Attractive to Everyone
People like things that look average because our brains find them easy to process. This is called the beauty-in-averageness effect. Three experiments showed that people prefer typical things because they are easier to understand and more attractive. Even when we don't consciously think about it, our brains still like average-looking stuff. This preference is linked to how quickly we can categorize things. So, when we see something that looks average, our brains react positively right away.
