Preschoolers Show Natural Tendency for Social Indirect Reciprocity in Daily Interactions
Preschool children aged 5-6 tend to show more helpful behavior towards their peers after witnessing those peers being kind to others. This suggests that young children have a natural tendency to engage in indirect reciprocity, where they return kindness they have seen others receive. The study observed children in a nursery school and found that bystander children were more likely to display positive behavior towards their peers after witnessing acts of kindness towards third parties. This indicates that young children may have an innate ability to form cooperative relationships and show empathy towards others, even at a young age.
