Revolutionizing Aquaculture: Earth Ponds Boosting Profitable Seafood Production
The study aimed to see if it's possible to grow spotted babylon snails to sellable sizes in large earthen ponds. They compared growing the snails alone to growing them with sea bass. The snails grew well in both setups, with slightly better growth in the snail-only ponds. At the end of the experiment, both setups produced similar amounts of snails. The cost of raising the snails alone was lower than raising them with sea bass. Selling the snails at a good price resulted in higher profits when they were raised alone compared to with sea bass. Overall, the study showed that it's technically possible and economically beneficial to raise spotted babylon snails in earthen ponds.
