Appraisals Alone Not Enough to Control Negative Emotions, Study Finds.
The study looked at how different ways of thinking about things (appraisals) affect negative emotions like anger, sadness, fear, and guilt. They found that not just one way of thinking, but combinations of different ways, also don't always lead to these emotions. This means that specific combinations of thoughts are not always enough or needed to feel these negative emotions. The researchers also found that fear is most strongly linked to thinking about obstacles.
