White light boosts rose seed germination, red light key factor
Multiflora rose seeds germinate better in light than in darkness. Red light helps the most, while far-red light doesn't help. Just 1 minute of red light exposure boosts germination, with 2 minutes being the maximum benefit. Far-red light can undo the red light's effect. This shows that rose seeds need light to sprout, and a plant pigment called phytochrome is likely responsible.
