Conservation farming in NSW boosts profits and protects the environment.
The research evaluated the economic impacts of conservation farming in northern NSW from the late 1970s to 2002. The analysis showed that investing in no till and reduced tillage practices had high benefit-cost ratios and net present values. By 2020, these practices were projected to have even greater benefits, including improved soil health and reduced soil erosion. Without these programs, farm and industry profitability would have been slower, affecting the strength of the industry and community.
