The article measures how well hospitals in Lombardia are using their resources. They used different methods to do this and found that the efficiency scores varied depending on how they defined inputs and outputs. Larger hospitals tended to be more efficient. There was no clear difference in efficiency between nonprofit private hospitals and public hospitals.
