Toxic Buildup in Fish Farms Stunts Growth and Deforms Larvae
The study looked at how the build-up of substances in fish farming systems can affect the growth of young fish. They used water from two different systems, one with a lot of substances and one with fewer. Fish eggs in the high-substance water had more deaths, slower hatching, and smaller size. But they had fewer deformities and developed faster. The water with more substances had lower pH and higher levels of certain chemicals and metals. This suggests that high levels of certain substances in the water can harm the growth of fish embryos and larvae.
