Matching stereotypes leads to stronger biases in person perception.
The study looked at how people use stereotypes when forming impressions of others. They found that when individuals pay close attention and want to be accurate, they are more likely to rely on stereotypes that match a person's characteristics. On the other hand, when a person's traits don't fit a stereotype, being highly motivated to be accurate weakens the influence of stereotypes. This suggests that our level of attention and motivation to be accurate can affect how much we rely on stereotypes when judging others.
