Redefining Security: Embracing Human Security for a Safer World
The article explores the relationship between human security and critical security studies. It questions whether human security is valuable in the field of security studies and suggests that a new approach called Critical Human Security Studies might be needed to make a lasting impact. Both human security and critical security studies challenge traditional ideas of security focused on military defense and state-centric views. The article argues that human security, which prioritizes individual security and influencing policy directly, has not been fully integrated into critical security studies. It proposes that human security scholarship needs to evolve beyond its current conceptual framework to have a significant impact on security studies.
