Corruption and lack of transparency hinder construction competitiveness in South Africa.
Large construction companies in South Africa are being investigated to understand their competitive strategies and financial performance. The study found that corruption and lack of transparency, as well as manpower issues, influence the strategies used by these companies. The best strategies identified by respondents are focusing on high quality and timely completion of projects, even though these strategies are negatively correlated with financial performance. This research sheds light on competitive strategies in the construction industry and highlights best practices.
