Major storms in Ventura River Basin transport tons of sediment to coast.
The study looked at how sediment from the Ventura River in California replenishes beach sands. They analyzed data from 1969 to 1981 to calculate sediment loads and assess the impact of storms on sediment transport. They found that most sediment reaching the coast was carried by suspended-sediment transport, with high flows moving more coarse sediment. Major storms were responsible for the majority of sediment transport. The unregulated part of the basin had higher sediment yield than the regulated part, but areas affected by dams may have the highest actual yields.
