Mexican hirsuta peanuts offer sweeter flavor than U.S. cultivars.
The study evaluated six different types of a rare peanut variety called "hirsuta" to see if they could be used to improve the flavor of roasted peanuts. The researchers found that while the hirsuta peanuts didn't have a unique roasted flavor, some of them had a sweeter taste compared to regular U.S. peanuts. This extra sweetness might be why people in Mexico prefer hirsuta peanuts.
