New double skin facade slashes energy costs and boosts comfort in homes.
A new glass double skin facade with movable shading systems was studied for its energy performance. The researchers tested how much sunlight passes through the materials and how they absorb or reflect it. By using a computer program that traces the path of sunlight, they found that the facade can help heat a building in winter and keep it cool in summer. A simulation of a building with this facade showed it works well in both seasons, better than regular glass facades.
