Confined artesian aquifers in Lagos reveal potential for sustainable water supply.
Groundwater resources in Lagos, Nigeria's coastal plain sands were studied. Pumping tests were done to evaluate the aquifers' properties. Data from well logs and pumping tests showed transmissivity values between 345.6 and 2,332 m2/day, indicating confined aquifers. Storage coefficient values ranged from 2.8x10^4 to 4.5x10^4, also suggesting confined aquifers. Well losses were a significant factor in drawdown due to poor well design and non-Darcian flow. The results help predict aquifer and well yields in the area.
