Declining Fish Diversity in River Narmada Threatens Ecosystem Balance.
The study looked at the different types of fish in the Narmada River in the Western Zone. They found that there were 51 species of fish in the area, with major carps, minor carps, and catfish being the most common. However, some species like Cirrihinus cirrihosa and Labeo bata were declining. The diversity of fish species was decreasing, with the lowest diversity in March and the highest in October. The main reasons for the decline were habitat destruction, pollution, and overfishing. It is important to study the life history and population of threatened fish species to help with conservation efforts.
