Water quality in Haihe River Basin deteriorating, projected to worsen due to climate change.
The study aimed to model water quality in the Haihe River Basin, China, to help save energy and reduce emissions. By dividing the basin into smaller units and evaluating pollutant loads, the model showed that water quality has been worsening since the 1980s and is expected to continue deteriorating due to climate change. The main issue is ongoing pollution entering the river, especially during dry seasons when there is not enough water flow to dilute it. This pollution has also affected groundwater and soil quality. To address this, it is recommended that efforts focus on controlling pollution sources and cleaning up contaminated areas.
