NEEDS Initiative Fails to Reduce Poverty in Nigeria, Alarming Rates Persist.
The National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) in Nigeria aimed to reduce poverty by improving infrastructure and living standards. However, after the first phase of implementation from 2004-2007, it was found that NEEDS did not significantly reduce poverty or create jobs. This failure was due to weak institutions and lack of political commitment. To reduce poverty and improve the economy in Nigeria, it is crucial for the majority to have access to quality education and for the government to prioritize economic reform and investment.
