New plow design reduces fuel consumption and improves depth stability in clay soil.
Researchers compared two different plow bottom shapes in heavy clay soil to see how they affected energy requirements and plowing depth stability. The long bottom reduced draft force by 12% and fuel consumption by 6% compared to the short bottom. Both bottoms had less stable plowing depths below 150 mm, but the long bottom was slightly better. Plowing depth variability increased as depth decreased for both bottoms.
