Large and persistent beach scarps can be dangerous and costly. A study looked at how these scarps change over time on a nourished beach in Mexico. They found that calm conditions kept the scarps in place, but strong waves and currents caused significant erosion and made many scarps disappear. The energy from waves, tides, and currents played a big role in shaping the beach.
