Boosting Tea Soil Health: Adding Organic Matter Improves Water Flow
The type of soil and the amount of organic matter in tea-growing soil affect how easily water can move through it. In a study in Assam, India, researchers looked at soil samples from ten tea estates. They found that the soil was mostly sandy clay loam, sandy loam, or sandy clay. The organic matter content ranged from 2.28% to 3.72%, with an average of 3.04%. The soil's ability to let water pass through varied from 0.234 to 0.386 cm/min, with an average of 0.311 cm/min. The results showed that adding more organic matter to the soil can improve its ability to let water flow through. More organic matter and sand in the soil meant better water flow, while more clay meant slower water flow.
