Tanzanian mushroom and chicken manure combo fights microbial infections effectively!
The Tanzanian edible mushroom Coprinus cinereus was grown on sisal waste substrates supplemented with chicken manure to see if the chicken manure would make the mushroom extracts more effective against microbes. The extracts from the mushrooms harvested at certain stages showed antimicrobial activity, which increased with higher levels of manure supplementation. This suggests that the mushroom contains compounds that can fight off microbes, and using chicken manure in its cultivation can boost the production of these helpful compounds.
