Subcontractors' export success boosts East Asian economies
In this research, experts looked at why small and medium-sized subcontracting companies in Korea are successful at selling their products abroad. By studying 1733 firms in Korean manufacturing, they found that these companies' ability to sell internationally is linked to their technology, management skills of leaders, and how they connect with other businesses they work with. Subcontracting firms have unique ways of using their resources and networks to export goods, different from other types of companies. The study shows that for these companies, selling products globally is influenced not just by their own strengths but also by their relationships with customers and other businesses they partner with.
