Harnessing the Sun to Revolutionize Heating in Cold Climates, Slashing Energy Costs and Emissions
Ground source heat pumps use the ground to heat and cool buildings, but in cold climates, the ground can get too cold over time, reducing the system's efficiency. To solve this, researchers studied using solar panels to warm the ground, creating Solar Assisted Ground Source Heat Pumps (SAGSHP). They analyzed a multi-floor residential building in different climates and found that using solar panels helped maintain the ground temperature, improving the system's energy performance.
