Indigenous Governance Unlocks Sustainable Resource Management in Zimbabwe's Communal Lands
Sustainable natural resource management in Zimbabwe's Communal Lands requires local involvement and indigenous governance systems. Research shows that institutions rooted in kinship and customary law are more effective than central government interventions. These local institutions have the necessary knowledge and capacity to manage resources sustainably, while central governments often lack resources and genuine intention to decentralize control. Indigenous worldviews and flexible, adaptive management systems are key to successful resource management in communal lands.
