Urea-treated wheat straw boosts nutrient intake in livestock, improving animal health.
The researchers experimented with treating wheat straw with different levels of urea and moisture to find the best conditions for improving its digestibility. They discovered that using 5% urea with 45% moisture for 4 weeks was the most effective treatment. In a separate experiment with heifers, feeding urea-treated paddy straw ad lib resulted in higher dry matter intake and digestibility compared to untreated straw or restricted amounts of treated straw. The study showed that treating straw with urea can increase nutrient intake and digestibility in animals.
