Turning oil palm waste into valuable cellulose products, revolutionizing sustainability.
Oil palm wastes in Malaysia can be turned into cellulose, a useful material. These wastes come from fronds, fruit bunches, and trunks, and are usually left in plantations or burned. By using high pressure steam and bleaching, researchers were able to isolate pure cellulose from the biomass. The resulting cellulose is similar to what is commercially available, with over 95% purity. This could lead to the production of valuable products from oil palm waste.
