Boost Wheat Yields by Half Urea Before Irrigation, Study Shows
The study compared different ways of applying urea to wheat on two types of soil. They found that spreading half of the urea before watering the soil was the most effective method. Using this method, wheat yield was similar at 80 kg N per hectare compared to other methods at 120 kg N per hectare. The yield increase with this method was 3.1 q per hectare at 80 kg N and 1.8 q per hectare at 120 kg N. The yield increase was higher with timely irrigation compared to late irrigation. Overall, the yield increase was around 4.0 q per hectare on sandy loam soil and 1.5 q per hectare on loamy sand soil.
