Deforestation and forest degradation in India are happening, despite efforts to increase forest area. India is losing about 99,850 hectares of forests annually. The REDD+ mechanism aims to give money to countries that reduce deforestation, but India is not ready to benefit from it yet, even though it has good laws and technology for monitoring forests.
