Humans tend to cooperate in lab games, but not always in real-life situations like environmental issues. This is because in lab games, freeriders can only choose not to contribute, while in real life, they can take others' contributions. A new game called the Claim Game shows that when freeriders can take contributions, no public good is produced. This shows the importance of testing environmental solutions in more realistic scenarios than standard lab games.
