Jordan's Fertility Rates Decline as Education Levels Rise: Study.
Fertility in Jordan was studied from 1972-76 using data from surveys. Fertility rates were high, with a slight increase in births from 1972-76 for women aged 40-44. Women aged 25-29 had the highest fertility rates, with a total rate of 6.55 in 1976. Fertility decreased as women's education level increased. There were no clear differences in fertility based on where women lived, unlike in 1972 when rural areas had higher rates. By 1976, rural and urban areas had similar fertility rates due to migration. Women with elementary, preparatory, secondary, and higher education all showed decreases in average births from 1972-76. In 1976, rural areas had slightly higher average births per woman compared to urban areas.
