Residential real estate investment trusts (REITs) play a big role in the overall REIT market, making up 13.5% of the market in 2007. This study looked at how important residential REITs are in a REIT portfolio from 1994 to 2007. They compared how well residential REITs perform compared to other types of REITs, stocks, bonds, and real estate. The study also looked at how the current housing crisis in the U.S. is affecting the future of residential REITs.
