Adrenal Hormones Unlock Obesity Pathway, Offering New Treatment Possibilities
The study compared the effects of removing the adrenal glands or pituitary gland on weight gain in rats with brain lesions. Complete removal of the adrenal glands stopped weight gain after brain lesions, while removal of the pituitary gland partially stopped weight gain. Rats with low levels of stress hormones gained weight after brain lesions, showing that these hormones play a role in causing obesity.
