Toxic industrial waste pollutes Malaysian river, endangering public health
The study assessed water quality in Gebeng industrial area, Pahang, Malaysia. The Tunggak River received industrial wastes, impacting water quality. Chemical and biological parameters were measured at five stations over three months. Results showed water quality in the area is degraded (Class ifi). High temperatures led to low dissolved oxygen levels. Ammonia concentrations were high, indicating industrial waste presence. Station 5 had high iron concentrations. The types of industries in the area affected water quality. More attention is needed to address water quality degradation in Gebeng.
